Effective Workplace Conflict Resolution

Effective conflict management is critical to success in any workplace. Unresolved conflicts can lead to decreased productivity, decreased job satisfaction, and increased turnover. The Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP) is an assessment instrument that measures conflict behaviours and can help individuals and teams improve their conflict management skills in the workplace.

Unlike other assessment tools, the CDP focuses specifically on conflict behaviours, rather than styles. This means that it helps individuals and teams understand how they respond to conflict in the workplace, what triggers can escalate conflict, and how to manage conflict more effectively. By identifying patterns of behaviour in conflict situations, individuals and teams can develop strategies to manage conflict more effectively, leading to improved workplace relationships and better outcomes.

There are two types of CDP. The individual self-report (CDP-I) looks at how you view yourself and explores how you respond to conflict both behaviourally and emotionally. The CDP-360 enables you to compare your own perceptions about how you behave during conflict with those of your colleagues. It provides a complete “conflict profile” with feedback from bosses, peers, and direct reports. This is particularly helpful for leaders, managers, and high-potential employees for whom conflict can be particularly challenging. Both versions of the CDP have a unique “hot buttons” section which identifies the emotional triggers that negatively impact relationships.

Using the CDP in the workplace can help individuals and teams identify areas for improvement in their conflict management skills. For example, if the assessment reveals that a team member tends to escalate conflicts, the team can work together to develop strategies for de-escalating conflicts before they get out of hand. If the assessment reveals that a team member is not considering different perspectives during a conflict, the team can work together to ensure that all perspectives are heard and considered.

The CDP measures behavioural dimensions that are critical to effective conflict management in the workplace. By completing the assessment, individuals can gain insights into their own conflict behaviours and those of their colleagues or team members.

The CDP is a flexible tool that can be used in a variety of workplace contexts. It can be used for individual coaching sessions, team-building exercises, or as part of a larger conflict resolution process. The assessment is available online and can be completed in as little as 20 minutes.
In summary, the Conflict Dynamics Profile tool is an excellent resource for improving conflict management skills in the workplace. By focusing specifically on conflict behaviors, rather than styles, the CDP helps individuals and teams understand how they respond to conflict in the workplace, what triggers can escalate conflict, and how to manage conflict more effectively. With its behavioural dimensions, the CDP provides a comprehensive assessment of conflict behaviours, making it a valuable tool for anyone looking to improve their conflict management skills in the workplace.
